Mission-Matsqui-Abbotsford Candidates Answer Questions

Reprinted excerpts April 18, 2025

The Mission Record asked each candidate in the Mission-Matsqui-Abbotsford riding to answer the same four questions and asked them to limit their answers to 200 words for each question. The following are [Kevin Sinclair's] answers:

What makes you and your party best suited to represent Mission in parliament?

The People’s Party of Canada is best suited to represent Mission in parliament because we are the only party proposing the bold reforms necessary to course correct from the disastrous policy decisions destroying our country. We propose solutions that will make life more bearable for Canadians.

For example, we must withdraw from the United Nations Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and implement a moratorium on mass immigration until we get the housing and healthcare crises under control and the negative economic impacts of this United Nations directed policy neutralized.

We must also end inflationary deficit spending and balance the budget in one year through spending cuts. As we found out with Covid, deficits today are the inflation and taxes of tomorrow.

We will stop funding foreign wars and keep that money in Canada (over $10 billion), end corporate welfare (giving subsidies to corporations and businesses) to save $25 billion, cut equalization payments in half ($13 billion) and eliminate subsidies to the CBC and other media ($2 billion).

With a balanced budget, we can lower taxes for individuals and businesses SUSTAINABLY and permanently abolish the capital gains tax. This would free our economy to soar.

With the consumer carbon tax gone, what do you think is the best approach to address climate change?

Canada has the cleanest greenest oilsands technology in the world. We also have one of the largest carbon capture systems on the planet, 270 million hectares of boreal forest. We are already carbon neutral. We should be displacing the world’s dirty oil with our clean oil if we are concerned about lowering global CO2 emissions.

Secondly, climate change alarmism is based on flawed models that have consistently failed at correctly predicting the future. CO2 is not a pollutant. CO2 is beneficial for agriculture and there has recently been a measurable “greening” of the world in part thanks to higher levels. In fact, supplying extra carbon dioxide is a frequently used method to increase the yield of greenhouse horticultural crops.

Given the uncertainties over the scientific basis of global warming, and the certainties about the huge costs of measures designed to fight it, we would withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord and stop sending billions of dollars to developing countries to help them reduce their emissions.

We would abolish all the taxes, regulations and subsidies associated and instead invest in adaptation strategies to protect Canadians against natural disasters such as floods and forest fires.

How do you and your party plan to address the economic uncertainty due to U.S. tariffs?

We would tell the truth to Canadians about how our government has been imposing outrageous tariffs on international imports for decades. Here are a few examples: Eggs 163%, Poultry 238%, Cheese 245%, Milk 270% and Butter 298%.

When Trump said that Canada has been ripping them off for way too long, he brought up specifically our 250% tariffs on dairy.

Unfortunately, we have a “dairy cartel” in Canada and, according to the Harvard International Review, “the Canadian Dairy Cartel pours CA$80 million - CA$120 million annually into maintaining relationships on Parliament Hill; searching the word “dairy” in the federal lobbyists registry database yields nearly 7,000 results (Canada’s Dairy Lobby: The Shocking Power of Big Milk Oct 19, 2022)”.

We need to end the backroom deals and put Canadians first. The USMCA comes up for renegotiation next year. Let’s sit down right now, put everything on the table and renegotiate. The reality is our outrageous tariffs are already on the table because Donald Trump said they are and there will be no deal otherwise. So, we can destroy Canada in a suicidal trade war or end the fake patriotism and negotiate a win/win agreement for both countries.

What can you and your party do at the federal level to bring more affordable housing options to Mission?

The fundamental problem of the housing crisis is the mismatch between supply of and demand for housing that Ottawa is making worse with its mass immigration policy and inflationary spending.

We will impose a moratorium on new permanent residents for as many years as necessary until the housing crisis has cooled down and the negative economic impact of mass immigration has been neutralized. We would then substantially lower the number of permanent residents Canada accepts every year to between 100,000 and 150,000.

We would end inflation in year one, through fiscally prudent spending cuts, as noted in the answer to question #1
We will modify the Bank of Canada’s inflation target, from 2% to 0%. This will cool down inflation in all sectors, including housing.

We would also privatize or dismantle the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), a mammoth government agency that fuels the housing crisis instead of helping to cool it down. All it has ever done is encourage Canadians to buy houses they can’t afford and accumulate massive amounts of debt that the federal government, and ultimately Canadian taxpayers, will be responsible for.
